K9 Scent Detection Handler/Trainer

American Pest is seeking an experienced K9 scent detection dog handler/trainer to perform inspections in commercial and residential settings as well as perform vehicle searches. The successful candidate will have a minimum of three years of experience working or training scent detection canines.

Responsibilities for this full-time position include working, training, and caring for (the ability to house/kennel our working K9 in your home is essential) our bed bug scent detection canine as well as problem solving through inspection, diagnosis and treatment consultation to alleviate current and prevent future pest control problems.

General Requirements include:
• 18 years of age or older
• authorized to work in the US
• high school diploma or equivalent
• ability to work before 8 AM, after 5 PM, and/or on weekends
• ability to read, speak, write and comprehend English
• good oral and written communication skills
• ability to plan, organize and prioritize work

Physical Requirements include the ability to:
• enter/exit structures and crawl spaces
• climb over and on top of structures
• ascend and descend stairs and ladders
• use of required personal protective equipment
• visually inspect for pests, pest harborage, pest entries, etc.
• use of application and inspection equipment, small hand and/or power tools
• tolerate a variety of environmental conditions, including seasonal weather, damp and/or dusty locations
• lift and carry up to 40 pounds.

Also required are a valid motor vehicle operator's license and good driving record, the ability to work a flexible schedule, and the availability to travel on occasion.

Pest identification and associated training will be provided by our entomological and technical staff.

Ex-military, Law Enforcement, SAR, DOD, DOC preferred and/or prior experience working a toy reward K9 is ideal.
